Recruitment Guide for 22,195 Level-1 Posts across Indian Railways
The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have
officially issued Centralised Employment Notice CEN 09/2025 to fill 22,195
vacancies for Level-1 (Group D) posts across Indian Railways. These roles
fall under Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, offering an initial basic pay of
₹18,000 per month alongside standard central allowances (DA, HRA, and Transport
Allowance).

Limits
1. Educational Qualifications
·
Matriculation / Class 10th pass from a
recognized Board/NCVT/SCVT, OR
·
Class 10th pass plus ITI from NCVT/SCVT
in designated trades, OR
·
National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.

Special
Note for CCAAs: Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAAs) receive one-third
weightage of their NCVT marks in the final merit and are officially exempted
from the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). |
2. Age Limit (as on January 1,
2026)
•
Standard Age Bracket: 18 to 33 years.
• Age Relaxations:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): +3 years
(up to 36 years)
- SC / ST: +5 years (up to 38 years)
- PwBD: +10 to +15 years (depending on
category)
- Ex-Servicemen: Deduction of military
service + 3 to 8 years as per Central Government norms.
Selection Process & Exam
Pattern
The recruitment under CEN 09/2025 consists
of three successive stages:
Stage 1: Computer-Based Test
(CBT)
The single-stage CBT has 100 objective
questions to be solved in 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates
using a scribe):

• Negative Marking: 1/3rd
mark deducted for each incorrect response.
• Qualifying Cutoffs: UR/EWS: 40%,
OBC-NCL/SC/ST: 30%.
• Percentile Normalization: Standardized
percentile normalization is applied across multi-shift tests.
Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test
(PET)
Qualifying in nature for non-apprentice
candidates (called in a 3:1 ratio to vacancies):
• Male Candidates: Lift and carry 35
kg for 100 meters within 2 minutes without dropping the weight; Run 1,000
meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
• Female Candidates: Lift and carry
20 kg for 100 meters within 2 minutes without dropping the weight; Run 1,000
meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.
Stage 3: Document Verification
(DV) & Medical Examination
Candidates are shortlisted in a 1:1 ratio
based on CBT percentile scores. This is followed by strict evaluations by the
Railway Medical Board across designated fitness codes (A-2, A-3, B-1, B-2,
C-1).
How to Check Application Status
& Download Hall Ticket
1. Go to the unified portal (rrbapply.gov.in) or your respective
regional RRB website.
2. Sign in using your registered Registration Number and Date of Birth
/ Password.
3. Click on the City Intimation Slip link to view your test city,
shift, and download the free railway travel pass (for eligible SC/ST
candidates).
4. Download and print the E-Call Letter 4 days before the allocated
test date.
5. Ensure you carry your original Aadhaar Card on exam day, as
Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication is mandatory prior to lab entry.
