Complete Official Guide for CEN 02/2026 (Technician Grade I Signal & Grade III)

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released Centralised Employment Notice CEN 02/2026 for the recruitment of 6,557 Technicians across Indian Railways. This recruitment drive covers two distinct positions: Technician Grade I Signal (Level-5 pay scale, starting basic pay ₹29,200) and Technician Grade III (Level-2 pay scale, starting basic pay ₹19,900).

Eligibility Criteria & Age Limits

1. Educational Qualifications

·         Technician Grade I Signal: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics / Electronics / Computer Science / Information Technology / Instrumentation, or a 3-Year Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in relevant engineering streams.

·         Technician Grade III: Matriculation / Class 10th (SSLC) plus ITI (NCVT/SCVT) in relevant trades (such as Fitter, Welder, Electrician, Machinist, Diesel Mechanic, Wireman, S&T, Track Machine) or completed Act Apprenticeship in the trade.

2. Age Limit (as of July 1, 2026)

• Technician Grade I Signal: 18 to 33 years.
• Technician Grade III: 18 to 30 years.
• Age Relaxations:
   - SC / ST: +5 years
   - OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): +3 years
   - PwBD: 10 to 15 years (depending on community)
   - Ex-Servicemen: Deduct service duration + 3 to 8 years as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process & Exam Pattern

Unlike Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP), the RRB Technician recruitment does not include a psychometric aptitude test (CBAT). The selection consists of three stages: Computer-Based Test (CBT), Document Verification (DV), and Medical Examination.

CBT Exam Pattern: Technician Grade I Signal

• Total Questions: 100 Objective MCQs | Duration: 90 Minutes
• Marking Scheme: 1 mark per correct answer; 1/3rd negative marking for incorrect responses.
• Subject-wise Distribution:

·  Basic Science and Engineering: 35 Questions

·  Mathematics: 20 Questions

·  Basics of Computers and Applications: 20 Questions

·  General Intelligence & Reasoning: 15 Questions

·  General Awareness: 10 Questions

CBT Exam Pattern: Technician Grade III

• Total Questions: 100 Objective MCQs | Duration: 90 Minutes
• Marking Scheme: 1 mark per question; 1/3rd negative marking applies.
• Subject-wise Distribution:

·  Mathematics: 25 Questions

·  General Intelligence & Reasoning: 25 Questions

How to Download Exam City Slip & Admit Card

Candidates scheduled for the CBT exam can check their details through the centralized portal (rrbapply.gov.in) or their regional RRB websites:

1. Log in using your registered Registration Number/Mobile and Password.

2. Click on the City Intimation Slip link to check your designated exam city, shift time, and date.

3. For SC/ST candidates eligible for free railway travel authority, download the travel pass attached with the city slip.

4. Download the E-Call Letter (Admit Card) 4 days prior to your allocated test date.

5. Bring a color printout of the admit card, one passport-size photograph, and an original Aadhaar Card for mandatory biometric verification at the examination centre.
